Heavy fighting resumed on Saturday, August 1, 2026, between the forces of the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), backed by the Wazalendo armed groups, in the Shango area of Butsike, Nyamaboko I Groupement, Masisi Territory, North Kivu Province.
Information from residents in the area indicates that the fighting began in the early hours of the morning and continued for several hours, with both heavy and light weapons being used. The sound of gunfire was also heard in the neighboring areas of Shoa and Mahanga, causing fear among many residents.
Residents said that many families chose to remain inside their homes while the fighting continued due to security concerns.
