Among the countries with strong trade relations with Iran are China, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, Iraq, Oman, Pakistan, India, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Trump said: “Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies to provide Iran with any means of sustaining itself will also face very severe economic consequences.”
China is Iran’s largest buyer, particularly of oil. A significant share of Iran’s oil exports goes to China. Chinese officials have said that sanctions and pressure will not solve the problem, arguing instead that the parties involved should seek a solution through political and diplomatic channels.
The United Arab Emirates has also been identified as an important economic partner for Iran, with significant trade and financial ties between the two countries.
Iraq likewise maintains strong economic relations with Iran, with bilateral trade covering various goods and energy products. Iran also supplies Iraq with natural gas used for electricity generation.
Other countries that maintain trade relations with Iran include Oman, Pakistan and India. India’s trade with Iran declined following U.S. sanctions, but it continues to export products such as tea, coffee and spices to Iran.
