Congolese Opposition Figure Martin Fayulu Says Kabila and Nangaa Should Not Be Excluded from National Dialogue.

Fayulu, who leads the Lamuka coalition, made the remarks in Paris, France, emphasizing that he and the two politicians have played significant roles in the political history of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and should therefore participate in talks aimed at finding solutions to the country’s challenges.

Kabila led the DRC from 2001 to 2019, while Nangaa previously headed the National Electoral Commission (CENI) before becoming the leader of AFC/M23.

Fayulu said the government in Kinshasa accuses Kabila of supporting and financing AFC/M23, which, he argued, is precisely why Kabila should participate in the talks and explain how he believes the country’s problems can be resolved.

“Kabila led this country. Whatever he is today does not matter, but he is still there. They say he is providing weapons and supporting AFC/M23; he should come and tell us why he is doing it and what the problem is.”

He said Nangaa should also participate in the talks and explain why he took up arms, stressing that the problems facing the Congolese should be resolved by the Congolese themselves.

The DRC government has repeatedly said it does not want Kabila and Nangaa to participate in the Congolese dialogue, accusing them of using armed means to challenge the government.

President Tshisekedi recently announced that he would address the public to explain the nature and framework of the planned Congolese dialogue, saying the initiative is aimed at building unity among the Congolese people.
