U.S. President Donald Trump held a nearly 90-minute phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he pledged to help find a solution to the war in Ukraine.

Yuri Ushakov, an aide in the Russian presidential administration (the Kremlin), said the phone call took place on July 4, the day the United States celebrates its Independence Day.

According to Ushakov, Trump expressed his willingness to help find a swift solution to the war and bring the conflict to an end.

Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed that he spoke with Trump, saying the two leaders discussed the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

Yuri Ushakov accused Ukraine and its European allies of seeking to prolong the war and intensify the fighting.

He also claimed that Russian forces continue to make gains on the battlefield. However, Ukraine rejected those claims, insisting that the cities mentioned by Russia remain under its control.

Russia has maintained that any lasting solution to the conflict must include the self-determination of the Donbas region.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he and Trump would continue their discussions during the upcoming North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit.

U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to continue diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a resolution to the conflict and are reportedly preparing to visit Moscow.

President Vladimir Putin also expressed optimism about ongoing talks between the United States and Iran, saying they could help pave the way for a long-term agreement.
